DNS – Domain Name System. The DNS is the system employed by the internet in order to translate a URL into an IP. 

TCP – Transmission Control Protocol. The TCP works with the IP to send data packets to and from computers allowing them to exchange data and for networks to converse. 

IP – Internet Protocol. The IP is the unique code that identifies computers around the world and is data sent by computer to computer across the internet. 

FTP – File Transfer Protocol. The FTP is used to transfer files between computers on a network.

SMTP – Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. SMTP is used as a protocol for sending e-mails between servers. 

HTTP – Hypertext Transfer Protocol. The HTTP is the protocol that defines how messages are formatted and transferred across the internet. It defines what actions servers and browsers should take in response to various inputs or commands.
