The first thing that comes to my mind is when I taught myself to paint. I wasn't necessarily super interested in watercolors or the theory of how to put paint down or mark-making, but once I discovered the way -I- paint and how watercolors respond, everything began to cement. I would consider that to be 3 and 4, which then led to me feeling like I learn something every time I paint something new (5 and 6)

Maybe that is why the chart is in a circle because you flow around at different paces and sometimes you gotta go back through a phase.

First thing I can think of is learning a brass instrument, which I did in 9th grade when our band director asked for volunteers. Everyone else had been playing for 4 years, and it really takes that long to build embouchure.

1 and 5 were the most important! My strong interest and desire was absolutely necessary, but I failed a lot at the beginning. My band directors put a lot of trust in my and I was able to solo-learn during the summer (we lacked a private instructor for only this instrument). I was able to take that same instrument and succeed throughout college.
