         <description><![CDATA[<div>The statements that hit home for me are: "In order to include all families we must engage all families" "Make all families meaningful partners".  I strongly feel that PS 78 is a place were we recognize the importance of this and strive to make all families feel welcome.  I also like the idea of the Family School Conference, many of us meet often with family members that are caring for or are raising our students and the grandparents, aunts, uncles and older siblings can be recognized in this more inclusive title.  A final thought is the CQC - Celebrations, Questions, Concerns may be able to fit in nicely to the format of the Sanford Harmony share circle and is a great way to learn more about our students and their families.<br><br>-Victoria Anderson</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>One of the things that stood out to me was asking students about family structures (p81). As the author states, I also used to feel squeamish about asking about families. Because I didn't want students to feel left out or uncomfortable, I would often avoid certain questions or activities. <br> When I taught 1st grade Social Studies, I would avoid some of the activities about families (like family trees, as mentioned on the book). I know think a better approach is to adapt these to include all.  I also like the idea of more open ended questions, so our students can guide us and let us know how to best approach discussions.  I also loved the idea of writing letters to family members to let them know what students learned.  Makes writing so much more authentic and real to our students and includes the family.</div>]]></description>
