         <title>Five Pillars of Islam</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Shahadah</strong> - declartion of faith. Testify there is only one God, Allah<br><br><strong>Salat </strong>-  ritual prayer. 5 daily prayers spoken in Arabic and facing Mecca. <br><br><strong>Sawn</strong> - fasting. fast during the daylight hours  of  Ramadan. The purpose is to remind people of the goodness of what they have and to show equality with the poor. <br><br><strong>Zakah</strong> - paying tax.  Wealthy pay      2.5% to the needy <br><br><strong>Hajj</strong> - Pilgrimage. Muslims believe in making a pilgrimage to Mecca to the Ka'bah at least once in their lifetime. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Caliph</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Abu Bakr</strong> was the first caliph after Muhammad. He was born in 573 in Mecca. A wealthy businessman who was among the first Muslims. Abu became Muhammad's closet friend and father-in law. He was chosen by tribal leaders to be the caliph after the death of Muhammad in 634.<br><br><strong>Umar</strong> was born in Mecca in 584. He became the second successor. Known for his just nature, he became one of the most powerful caliph's in Muslim history. Umar was also a close friend and advisor to Muhammad, appointed by Abu before he died. Umar encouraged conquering more lands doing quite well before his death in 644.<br><br><strong>Uthman, </strong>another close friend of Muhammad was the third caliph. He was appointed by a council Umar elected. Born in 579 to a wealthy Meccan clan,  Uthman played a major role in Islamic history, continuing to conquer and expand the land.  Due to protests about his policies, Uthman was eventually assassinated in 656.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Important Cities of the 7th C</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Mecca</strong> was the birthplace of Muhammad. It is here that Muhammd first revealed the Qur'an. The Ka'ba, a shrine built to worship Allah, is also located here. Muslims regard Mecca as the holiest city in the religion of Islam. <br><br><strong>Medina </strong>is the second holiest city.  It was to the city of Medina that  Muhammad fled when he was driven out of Mecca. This is where he gained his first followers. <br><br><strong>Jerusalem </strong>is also an important city in Muslim, and other religions. Orginally, the city to which Muslim's looked to while praying, it is believed that Muhammad traveled here by night and ascended into heaven. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>The Qur'an</strong>. Islam's holy book. <br><br><strong>Masjid-al Haram or The Dome of the Rock </strong>in Jerusalem, built in 691 where the Jewish temple was before it was destroyed. Muslim's believe it is built around&nbsp; the rock Abraham stood on when God spoke to him. Masjid-alHaram is the largest mosque in the world.<br><br><strong>Masjid-e-Nabawi&nbsp; </strong>mosque was established by&nbsp; Muhammad , upon his migration from Mecca to Madina. It is the second largest mosque in the world after Masjid-al Haram.</div>]]></description>
