(Golding 24) The way the author uses the atmosphere to create a certain mood during this scene of the book is unique. The author emphasizes Piggy's desperation to be recognized, but also highlights the fact that the other 3 boys pay no mind to him. If the boys are on an island, and most are taking their clothes off, why would there be a group full of kids wearing cloaks and bunches of clothing? It gives us a short introduction and glimpse into kids vs the wilderness.
