In a battery, the anode undergoes oxidation, losing electrons, while the cathode experiences reduction by gaining electrons. The flow of electrons from the anode to the cathode occurs through an external circuit, generating electrical power. Meanwhile, the electrolyte allows the movement of ions to balance the charge, ensuring the continuous flow of electrons between the electrodes. This movement of electrons and ions is the core mechanism that enables a battery to store and release energy.
