During this week Riccardo Muti lead CSO's first performances of Sergi Prokofiev's Ivan the Terrible, composed for the 1944 film. Without even watching the film and no background knowledge of the composer or agenda, I was able to experience a thrilling mixture of battle sequences, brooding choruses, and grand coronation.
