Closeness (Chapter 14)

At first glance, I didn't know what this chapter was going to be about. I supposed that is what intrigued me because the other chapters I had an idea of what the musical element was. Initially, I thought closeness was how an artists music relates to the artist on a personal level. However, as I read more, I realized it was more about style, harmonization, and synchronization. The example from the book about Paul McCartney and John Lennon from Help! really shed some light on the element that helped me find my external song. My personal pick is the Top Secret Drum Corp which is all about synchronization and closeness as any drum corp is.

"The late Beatles sold the notion of four distinct minds, attitudes, tones. But the earlier Beatles, through Help!, contained the marvel of closeness between the voices of Paul McCartney and John Lennon. They knew its power; they celebrated it, were celebrated for it, could hardly contain it, may have been frightened by it, may have tried to frighten each other with it

Sometimes the closeness of two musicians within a band is what makes the band capable of moving beyond normal limits. The connection between them becomes the power source, creating enough energy for the rest of the band to feed from or mirror.
