and simplest encryption methods. 
It is a simple substition code in which each letter is replaced with a letter corresponding to a particular shift up or down the alphabet.
The code illustrated here uses a left shift of three, so that (for example) each occurrence of E in the plaintext becomes B in the ciphertext. 
The Caesar Shift cipher is named after Julius Caesar, as he was known to use this code with a shift or rotation three to the right to encrypt messages to his troops.
