The picture of the stars in relation to the quote was when Rex took his kids out the desert one by one and let them choose out a star that they could call theirs.   This quote shows that no matter what family always is loyal. Brian knew Jeannette was having a hard time because some little girls would jump her. He took matters into his own hands to try and help his sister. Brian showed his loyalty to Jeannette by trying to protect and defend her from the little girls.   The picture and quote go well together because there is an unspoken/unwritten rule when you become a parent which is to protect,provide, and love your child unconditionally for they are a part of you. And the walls parents could not do so which is where they broke that promise.  Jeannette and her dad had an unbreakable bond. She always believed in him when no one else would. Even if her dad was an alcoholic and couldn't provide much for them she managed to forgive and always see the best in him.   In this circumstance Jeannette and Brian had found a ring when they were outside. They planned on selling the ring because they knew it was worth something. They took it to their mom who confirmed that it was a two-carat ring. She insisted on keeping it because she said it would help her self-esteem. Rose Mary told Jeannette that she should accept people for who they are. Not judge them because there is a certain good quality about that person.
