I would pick Sacagawea to take along with me. One reason I would pick her is that she knew many different Native American language and could help with communicating and trading with the Natives. One of our goals were to build good relations with the Natives and she would help with that. Just having her with us would be helpful because a group of people with a women shows a sign of peace because Native war groups never brought women with them. So just her presence would help a lot.

Her presence would help keep us out of trouble and show Natives we were coming in peace. Sacagawea also proved helpful in directions especially in Idaho. She also got horses for them from the Shoshone tribe. With her knowledge of the landscape around them, her translating ability, and her presence she was all around a perfect person to have with them.

Plant -

Cams comes in many different forms and is used in many different ways. For example, dried camas. Dried camas is the most expensive form of camas, with baked and then raw camas being less expensive. Camas was and continues to be one of the most important root foods of western North American. Indigenous peoples, from southwestern British Columbia to Montana, and south to California use it for many different reasons.

Animal -
I chose a Black - Tailed Prairie Dog. Black - Tailed Prairie Dog has yellowish to reddish brown fur on its back and sides and lighter colored fur under its neck and on its chest. It has small ears on the sides of its head. It has a long body, small front paws with long claws and a short, black-tipped tail. Prairie dogs are very social animals. They are active in the day.

The black-tailed prairie dog lives in burrows in dry prairies with short grass. Their burrows have an entrance that is surrounded by a pile of dirt. The seeds stems, roots and leaves of forbs. I think the Corps would think these animals were weird because of their habitats. I also think they would be surprised about how social they are.

The Nez Perce Indians lived in scattered villages in the Plains west of the Rocky Mountains. They owned the largest horse herd in the continent. They fished for salmon along the Clearwater and Snake rivers, and harvested camas plants in mountain meadows. When the tribe met Lewis and Clark they gave them horses and told them of a route. The Nez Perce were not scared of the white men and they had no problems.
