in Salem Illinois the puritans had a special "pure religion" which on of their beliefs was that the devil was always out to get them. this made being in their religion very stressful because they were always looking for ways the devil could hurt them. during this time "witchcraft" was very popular in European contries. so when these teenage girls started to act weird and call people witches many people in their religion were scared and started to act out
