I remember sending an email to Hill with the office referral attached,

and saying this is the 5th office referral I've written on this child this year,

but the child's punishment was not anymore than it was before. We had had

Parent conferences and phone calls, moved the child from my classroom to another,

And yet nothing worse seemed to happen to him.

Did the incident happen at the end of the day or the referral written at the end of the day COBB

This info might give us some insight as to the "why" of the behavior in relation to performance on STAAR. We know that behavior is directly related. cobb

P. Carsey. The discipline for kindergarten students needs to be age appropriate but also be a message that inappropriate behaviors are not acceptable.

We really tried to switch kids with behavior problems within the grade level, and it often did help just to give the kids a break from the teacher's room, as well as give them a fresh perspective and outlook within " counseling" in another classroom.

I appreciated that sometimes on a referral there was just a lunch in the office or a serious warning and not straight to OCS, it helps for getting them to take it seriously

I've asked for office and counselor assistance and told they were not available. That was frustrating., especially when I had major incidents taking place. Does the Vivian, Debbie etc know who to get for us if Cobb and Hill are not available? Also, the office staff cannot reward with sweets, toys, playtime.

I think that teachers should also rely on teachers from other grade levels when they have a student who is in need of a time out. Sending a younger child to a higher grade level can help redirect that behavior.

P. Carsey , I'm happy to be a timeout arena for any grade level. I've had students from upper grades in my room and I think they benefitted from the time away.

Place a copy of grade level handbooks on our web page.

Parents seem to throw these out.
