She showed extreme literary talent throughout her life and pursued poetry at a young age. In 1939 she left Hungary for Eretz Yisrael. Senesh was 1 of 33 people to be chosen to parachute into enemy territory. She was trained in Egypt. 

With the goal of reaching Budapest, in March 1944 she parachuted into Yugoslavia, and spent 3 months with Tito’s partisans. Thai is about the time when she was inspired to write her poem “Blessed is the Match”. She was tortured cruelly and repeatedly over the next several months that she was captive. Despite what was happening to her, she refused to spill the beans about anything including her mission.
