My name is Frederiek. I live in Kortrijk, Belgium. I teach informatics in Guldensporencollege in Kortrijk. The name of my school refers to the Battle of the Golden Spurs. I'm teaching informatica starting in the fourth year (16 years old) up to seventh year (a specialisation year) (18+ years old). Our school is over 1200 students, located in 5 buildings across the city or near the city. Our school offers the general education (ASO as it is called in Belgium), technical education (trade and accounting) and professional education (office management and sales).Next to teaching I'm also part of a ICT team that is responsible to maintaining and troubleshooting the computers in our school. We have a 2 kinds of ICT support in our schools. The local ICT guys (I'm one of those) do all the daily stuff, installing, repairing, replacing, ...The you also have the Central ICT guys, and they maintain servers, network and internet connecton. Our school is transitioning from all cables and wireless for teachers to wireless for students as well. We have quite a few computer classrooms. There are discussions about entering the BYOD era as well, but not with a fixed date in mind.

The school I work in has long been a school with lots of separate computerlabs. Only lately the efforts have been streamlined to offer same service to all computers, for instance: beamer, computer en sound in every classroom, several computerlabs with different number of computers, ranging from 20 to 30.

We have a ict team, local in every school and a central team overviewing the entire ict department and supporting the local teams. The central team is responsible for ict in the long run, the local team is responsible for day to day management, installation and support of all ict materials.

We now have one type of Windows installation we use for all computers. The teachers are able to ask for new programs to be added to the installation image for the next school year.

Our wifi is normally not open to students. Teachers can ask for vouchers who give students a limited access for a certain period of time. But the tendency is to open it entirely for the students, so they can use their smartphones and tablets to fulfill some ict tasks in lessons.

We offer training to our teachers in some rather new applications, such as socrative and kahoot. Therefore our students can use their own devices at hand. It is not really a school rule, it depends on the teachers. School would like more use of ict in every way possible, whether it be BYOD or computerlabs.

To be able to allow students on our wifi, we still have some investments to do in buying more wireless AP's. As this investment is rather small, I think in the course of next year, this probably will be carried out.
