Myanmar's GDP growth rate, or annual growth of the economy, is 6.8% which indicates that the state's economy is growing very slowly. In Myanmar, the GDP per capita which indicates the GDP of the nation divided by the citizens in Myanmar is $6,300. Myanmar is mostly a tertiary economy with the majority, 40.3%, of the state's GDP comes from services. 35.6% comes from industrial activities and 24.1% comes from agriculture. In Myanmar, 35.6% of the entire population lives under the poverty line. Myanmar also has a lot of economic inequalities. The richest 10% of the country earns up to 40% of the total income of the nation, while the poorest 10% only earn around 2-7%. The access to improved sanitation is 77.4% overall, but there is more access in urban areas with 84.3% of the urban population being able to access it, while in rural areas 73.9% can use it. This says that a majority of the country is well developed with access to basic commodities like sanitation.

Myanmar is dominated entirely by a tropical monsoon climate. The physical geography of Myanmar is distinguished by the Shan Plateau in the east, the Chin Hills in the west, and the vast jungles dominating the rest of Myanmar. The Shan Plateau dominates the majority of Myanmar's eastern territory, while the Chin hills separate Myanmar from India. Myanmar only borders one body of water, the Bay of Bengal. Myanmar's unique physical characteristic of vast jungles have had a major impact on the formation of human settlements. The majority of Myanmar's cities are in the small regions of light forestation. This has resulted in very dense urbanized settlements where Myanmar's major cities are today. Myanmar also has a massive deforestation problem due to the vast amounts of trees in its lands. Myanmar loses hundreds of thousands of hectares of forest each year. This has devastated rural communities because the majority of them rely on the plentiful resources and food security the forests provide.

Myanmar is a unitary parliamentary republic under its constitution of 2008. Win Myint is the current political leader in Myanmar. After five decades of autocratic military rule, Burma (also known as Myanmar) has initiated a critical transformation to representative democracy. It has been 20 years since Myanmar became a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Before 1996,Myanmar was an outsider weighing its decision to join the regional grouping. In July 1996, Myanmar took the big leap and expressed intention to join ASEAN.

Myanmar is a relatively slow growing population, with only a 0.89% growth rate, The majority of citizens in Myanmar are aged 25-54 with 42.51% while the lowest population is over 65 with 5.67%. This shows how the life expectancy is very low compared to other nations, mostly due to the lower GDP per capita giving less access to healthcare. The overall life expectancy si 68.6 years, while males have an expectancy of 67 and females 70.3. The majority of the population does not live in urban areas, as only 30.6% do. One noteworthy thing in Myanmar is the net migration rate is -1.5/1000 people. This shows that more people leave Myanmar than immigrate to it.

Myanmar was a very isolated nation and had nearly no geopolitical influence until British colonization after the Anglo-Burmese conflict(1824-1826). The British saw Burma(Now Myanmar) as a doorway to lucrative trade with China giving them incentive to engage in warfare with the Burmese. Following WWII, the Burmese independence became a more pressing issue in the region. Aung Sun was a democratic icon that lead to Burma's independence. She is famed for her non-violent negotiations for peace which won her a nobel peace prize.
