Myanmar is mostly a tertiary economy with the majority, 40.3%, of the state's GDP comes from services. 35.6% comes from industrial activities and 24.1% comes from agriculture. In Myanmar, 35.6% of the entire population lives under the poverty line. Myanmar also has a lot of economic inequalities. The richest 10% of the country earns up to 40% of the total income of the nation, while the poorest 10% only earn around 2-7%. The access to improved sanitation is 77.4% overall, but there is more access in urban areas with 84.3% of the urban population being able to access it, while in rural areas 73.9% can use it. Following WWII, the Burmese independence became a more pressing issue in the region. Aung Sun was a democratic icon that lead to Burma's independence.
