Douglass used this example of ethos to provide credibly evidences because he show the background of each master history. Slaves know their owners more than their own their family. Douglass's experience of slavery first hand gives him the creditably for the reader to believe him. This is an example of slavery is bad by breaking families apart.

Douglass used this example of logos to support his claims because he show the lists of items that every slave can have. Slaves don't have the right to food and clothing without their master's permission. The slaves have to wait for a month or a year for get these items. This took away their freedom of right to live, property, and wealth.

Douglass used this example of pathos to show his feelings to his audiences because families were a key to ideas of rights. Children had to spend a year with their mothers before they were taken away. They were sent to different places where old mothers take care of them and rise them. This was a sad time of slaves having no families to be loved.
