I live and teach from the "Great Smokey Mountains" of Asheville, North Carolina as a full-time geographically remote faculty member.  Autumn is just around the corner, and in the morning when I walk my dog, a black Lab mix (a shelter dog) whose name is "Smoke", it is about 65 degrees.  In the many acres of nearby woods way up here on top the mountain, we enjoy the fresh air and all of the sights, sounds, and native animals that are all a part of the local nature (currently wild turkeys, rabbits, mountain lions, and, of course, bears,  [and there been quite a few bears this year who have been peeking in windows throughout the neighborhood and even trying to open some front doors...which is actually not that unusual] ). I have been involved in nursing administration at various levels, which included dealing with ever-tightening budgets, and have created and owned two nursing businesses - - so, as the old adage goes, I have "this is not my first rodeo". I also worked as the Director of Operations for the City of Philadelphia Department of Public Health and was responsible for a multimillion dollar annual budget using various categories of tax and other governmental dollars.  For fun, I spend every Christmas and New Years in Costa Rica and, one of my favorite parts is when I visit a Toucan Reserve where I have 2 special  "friends" that I have become quite close friends with: Izzy and Stuart. This photo is of Stuart during one of several of our lengthy chats/visits.  The preserve caretakers chuckle because Izzy and Stuart seem to remember me each year and they come right to me when I arrive and we just have wonderful up close and personal visits [Toucans live to be 80 years old and have good memories]. It is a highlight of my annual vacations.  (PS...To see a larger close up of Stuart [as Toucan's don't look "real" sometimes] just click on the photo. I told Stuart to say "Cheese"...he did a good job.)

Heather Reardon here from Reno, NV. Usually working on homework after my kiddos are asleep, hence the late nights.

I have not been in a position where I had significant responsibility for finances, just budgetary committee overview. 

I hope to learn more about healthcare finances and maybe dabble in some budget analysis. I’m currently employed in Higher Ed, volunteering on our Union Collective Bargaining Team which has highlighted how much I actually don’t know. 

A little about “me,” well, I’m guilty of starting lots of hobbies… chasing that dopamine! Ha! Not all of them are collecting dust. Lately, I’ve been using my Cricut mostly for t-shirts, visors, hair bows for my kiddos various extracurriculars. I coach Little League Softball and it is an absolute blast. Living in Reno, provides lots of opportunities for just about anything. I enjoy camping with my family and spending time at the lake. I’ll be celebrating 13 years to my husband this December and share 3 Beautiful kiddos, 9, 7, and 5. They're the ones in the bottom left picture. My oldest got roped into being a Jr Coach but he loves it. :)

I'm Jennifer Brown. I live in Reno...smoked out right now from the forest fires burning around us.

I have been involved with the Nevada Association of Nurse Anesthetists for about  eight years. I have held a variety a roles including Member, Secretary and President. The Board members are tasked with creating and approving the annual budget. I have not had any significant administrative financial responsibilities.

This class is a perfect first step to understanding healthcare financial models. I hope to better understand system-level thinking, by gaining knowledge of the interrelationships between all the components within the healthcare system and the people that work in it.

I moved to Reno for the outdoor adventures. The Sierra Nevada mountains, Lake Tahoe and the Pacific Ocean. I grew up in New England and headed out west for a change in scenery ten years ago. 
Black bears are frequently seen in our neighborhood as well as the rare sighting (by Ring, Arlo or other video devices) of a mountain lion. 

The most magical of moments, for me, is when I have a connection with a wild animal. When I feel that the animal is interacting with me specifically and not just existing around me. I have had a few great moments like that with wolves, bears, Gentoo penguins and a Southern Giant-Petrel. Dr. Clements, I understand how amazing your Toucan "friends" are and how special that must feel. Thank you for sharing.

 I have been a registered nurse for 7years. I graduated from Oklahoma City University with my BSN and moved out here in 2015 to meet my husband who was also completing his education. I graduated last year from UNLV with my FNP and decided to continue with the DNP program.
 I currently live in Las Vegas. I have not really had any managerial or administrative positions. 

With this class, I am very excited to learn some important budgeting and financing techniques which I think may not only be helpful in the nursing field but also in my personal life

I am married with 2 daughters who are 6 and 15 months old. We love traveling especially to countries and cities with nice beaches. Above is a picture of my family.

I moved to Perris, California in 2002 from Paris, France. Unfortunately, I forgot about 90% French! I like to travel, wishing to visit as many countries as I can; I also like to eat but hate cooking. My name is Maricel Olan-Cabrera. I migrated to Las Vegas in year 2000 from the Philippines. I am in the process of moving to Phoenix Arizona before the end of the year for a better job opportunity.  
I have been a clinician for the past nine years and never had any experience in management or administrative side of nursing that required me to have financial and budgetary responsibilities. The only experience that I have that would come close to monetary responsibility is when I submit my billing after seeing patients in the hospital. 
Since I do not have any background in budgetary, management and financial responsibilities, I am looking forward to learning from this course how to develop this skill set as part of my advance practice role in Nursing. I would also like to learn the responsibilities of both healthcare corporation and the clinician side and how this impacts the healthcare delivery system. 
I love nature, architecture, and hiking. Las Vegas has a lot of nature retreats that have hiking trails that are beautiful. I am sharing this picture of me and my children who are now 15 and 18 years old when we went hiking in Mount Charleston.

My name is Irene Kyritsis and I have moved to Nevada from New York in 2020 with my daughter Meli, and we acquired a 9 mo puppy named Wall-E, and that is our entire family.

This past week was my birthday, so I took Meli to Disney to celebrate, hence the late posting.

I have been a nurse since 2010, and NP since 2016 and have only worked in Heme/Onc during my career. I have never worked in any administrative/management/budgeting capacity yet.

Prior to being a nurse, I had a BA and worked in graphic design and publishing.

My name is Robert Erickson and I live in Las Vegas. I work full-time+ and I am the Chief CRNA for my facility, and I am responsible for payroll, staffing, and behavioral issues among other issues. I am distanced from the day-to-day finances, however. I have an open mind for this term, and I am interested to see the non-nursing tasks related to healthcare. As an assigned course, I hope to gain useful tools to help me understand the essentials for budgeting, forecasting, and fiscal responsibility. I enjoy travel, and I have just returned from Greece this past July (see picture). I enjoy bowling, roller skating, and going to the movies. My personal life is private. I am an active member of NVANA, the Nevada Association of Nurse Anesthetists.

I was born in Orange County, CA and most of my family still live there. SoCal will always be considered home. I am in the BSN-DNP program (FNP track) so I have never really been in a significant management position before. I know absolutely nothing about the financial aspects of nursing and feel quite intimidated by this course. I expect to learn a lot about budgeting and nursing finances from the material, Dr. Clements, and all of you guys who I presume are much more experienced than me. I enjoy travelling, but my destinations are (self) limited by my fear of flying. I typically travel within the United States as flights > than 6 hrs or flying above large bodies of water give me severe stress. I will include a picture of my most recent vacation to Denver. The Red Rocks Amphitheatre was definitely the highlight of my trip!
