This type of hip hop includes "classic" rap (i.e. 90's and early 2000's) and music resembling it. The difference between modern rap and classic rap has to do with the beat, the flow, and the lyrical technique. The beats are a bit more energetic, yet still very calm and chill. The flow of early rap seems to fit the background music much more efficiently, lining up with specific rhythms to echo some beats. The background music of "classic" rap is a lot more engaging and less repetitive when compared to modern rap. Lyrics in general improve greatly from modern to classic rap. Although the main focus of classic rap is sometimes drugs, money, women, and fame, it is much less abundant when compared to modern day rap.
