         <description><![CDATA[<p>So far, from what I have read in 'Skellig', family serves as a source of tension, and conflict, but I guess it will also probably eventually be about support? Right now, at the beginning, Michael's parents are distracted by his sister's illness and they seem to not pay him any attention. I didn't like the scene where they were making fun of his dad and calling him fat. It kind of reminded me of teasing in my own family about weight issues. :(</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Michael's parents are very focused on the baby and not as much on Michael and his feelings. His parents get annoyed when Michael asks questions. Michael is scared for his sister's health, but gets brushed off by the grown-ups in his life. </p>]]></description>

         <title>The mood of the garage</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The description of the garage was mysterious, spooky, erie. We can see this in the word use at the beginning of chapter 1. It was described as dark, gloomy, dusty, dirt inside and cold. These words indicated that the author wants to create a dark, mysterious atmosphere at the beginning of his story, for the reader to feel intruiged to keep reading. </p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>It definitely has a familial aspect as the mother is stuck in the present (the baby), the father is stuck in the future (preparation for familial house) and Michael is stuck in the past (Arthur, Ernie Meyers, questions about the house and evolution).</p><p><br/></p><p>Other then that they are all connected by the baby who keeps them together even though they are all focussed on other things. </p><p><br/></p><p>The meaning of the word ‘Skellig’ means ‘steep rocky island, small or strap area of rocks’ which could insinuate all of the obstacles that the family has to go through and pass and avoid before they read their goal, before they become a family again that is not stuck in different parts of time.</p>]]></description>

From the baby's hair being black to mina's hair being black to blackbirds, crows, the black suit the being in the garage wears.  This could be a symbol for the negativity surrounding the situation.
