It is a phenomenon that can bring about significant harms to social systems and a disproportion between cause and consequence (Walby, 2015). I have chosen the article ‘World hots record land, sea temperatures as climate change fuels 2023 extremes’ (The Straits Times, 2023), to engage with the ‘crisis’ of global warming.


- Climate change is unprecedented and irreversible

- Every region will be affected by floods, droughts, and heatwaves

- The lack of understanding and the loss of control of the prevailing situation breeds fear which result in disorientation.

- Singapore is highly reliant on Malaysia for exports, supply shortage increases costs of living


- However, In Straits Times article ‘NDR 2023: S’pore to weather storm of economic uncertainty, global warming affecting food prices’ (Lau, 2023)

- Government is responding to the crisis by providing monthly subsidies

- enhancing financial support to middle- and low-income households

- decreases shocks to society
