I went to the meeting with information about how the teachers should be treating children, policies and legislation. I spoke calmly and was assertive.

I felt confident in what I was saying because I had backed it up with key information. I gave the teacher opportunity to hear their views whilst getting mine across without getting upset or angry.

The teacher apologised and committed to doing better in the future. I left the meeting feeling confident I had got the result I needed.

If I didn't have that confidence, I could have become insecure and not got my point across, the teacher could have disregarded my comments and concerns and the issues for my son could have continued. Confidence in this situation let the teacher know that I was serious about my concerns and would take things further if things weren't resolved.
