         <description><![CDATA[<div>Often times premies in NICU receive supplemental oxygen which in undeveloped lungs can lead to BPD (bronchopulmonary dysplasia). Current treatment with preterm labor is steroid injections to promote the maturity of lungs. A therapy that improves lung and brain health would immensely benefit preterm babies with this chronic lung disease (Hastings, (2022)).&nbsp; Ottawa Hospital is investigating the use of MSC (mesenchymal stromal cells)-derived extracellular vesicles in use with preterm newborns in brain and lung development. They have had success in clinical trials used in mice with BPD .&nbsp; Given the positive results of the current study, they hope to also test MSC-derived extracellular vesicles in preterm babies as well (Hastings, (2022)).</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I believe that the product could be revolutionary for preterm births. If this helps improve the outcome of even a single newborn it is worth the research. The current treatment once a women undergoes preterm labor is to provide steroid injections. However, that is on a time constriction on rather or not it will have enough time to cause a change in outcome of lung development. Once born a preterm newborn that undergoes desaturation is placed on supplemental oxygen. The oxygen used to treat premature babies can end up injuring their lungs, leading to BPD. Meanwhile, a lack of oxygen getting to the brain can result in developmental issues (Hastings, (2022)). Even in current treatment we have a variable of risks. The use of MSC-derived extracellular vesicles can bypass the lung damage, providing adequate oxygenation to brain and lungs for proper development.</div>]]></description>
