Create your original draft with as little formatting as possible! You may have to take it ALL out when uploading to certain platforms, or will only be able to do certain things. Your initial content should be as "bare" as possible. Once you know what the final eproduct can look like then add things later.

When starting to write your textbook, don't worry about formatting, or even the correct order. Just write!

When considering which format to use, don't dismiss the humble PDF. If the layout and formatting of your ebook are critical -- such as if you have tables or diagrams -- this is one of the best, if not THE best, ebook formats to choose. After all, there must be a reason it's lasted as an open standard since 2001!

Consider selling your ebook. You will need to consider all the ramifications and discuss with your leadership team, but it could earn some money for your school to buy much-needed equipment.

Have your goals clearly established, what you aim at, who your target audience is, and

a good plan of activities for those goals to be achieved. Dynamic challenges, which engage

the target audience, meaningful and visually attractive are key elements of a neat ebook. And

of course, never forget about assessment and evaluation.

Publish to several platforms, so that,

if one closes down, you still have your

ebook somewhere else. Last year Glossy

was very popular, but it is not an option

any more. I also carelessly lost some of

my content when Posterous went down.

Keep a back-up copy on your computer.
