The Fall of the Berlin Wall

Marking the end of the cold war in December 1989, the Berlin Wall was removed.The division between the two were finally gone. This was a huge symbol of the cold war and its end.

The Divisions of Germany

After WWII Germany was divided between Capitalist territory and Communist territory. Great Britan took over around 2/3 of Germany while USSR took over about 1/3. The capital of Gemany, Berlin was split between the three in the middle of communist territory.

Cuban Missle Crisis

This was the closest the world has ever came to nuclear war. Castro was the leader in Cuba at the time and he was very much communist. It was basically the USA and the Soviets agianst eachother once again. This is so important because this is the closest to nuclear war we have and hopefully will ever be.

Stalin Dies

The leader of the USSR through the second world war and part of the cold war dies in 1953. Stalin was opiononated and very much a communist. The significance of his death is that a leader for so many years dies during big conflict in the world and his successor has a totally diffrent way to run the country changing the USSR forever.

These islands are were the USA tested there nuclear weapons. it is said that they tested around 67 nuclear bombs on these islands. This is significant because they were some of the first nukes detinated.

There was a race between the two nations to try and get to the moon first. The USA won that race making the USSR cancel there mission all together. The USA winning caused some of the first cooperation between two nations.

Vietnam War

The Vietnam War was a war that was fought between the Capitalists and the Communists. Northern Vietnam was run by Communists and had a dictator. Southern Vietnam also had a dictator but was Capitalist and allies with the USA. Both fought until Capitalists won in the end. This is so important because of how many lives it took and what it caused.

Bombing of Nagasaki and Hiroshima

At the end of WWII the USA launched atomic bombs on 2 citys, Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This was to make sure Japan surrendered to the USA. This was so important becasue it showed the USAs military forces and it killed lots of people and had lasting affects.

The Camboidan Genocide was a direct effect of the Vietnam war, and the bombing of Cambodia it was a genocide that tried to get a classless society. Taking away any modern technolgy. This was so important because it took away all freedom and killed lots of people who were completly innocent.

Destalinization

After Stalin died the leader of the USSR became Khrushchev. Khrushchev had a very different way to run the USSR then Stalin did. A few years after Stalin's death he began the destalinization process. This was a process to get rid of all things Stalin. Khrushchev was a very opinionated man. His way of running the USSR differed greatly from Stalin's which made him so important to the 20th century. He changed the way the USSR was run forever.

Korean War

The Korean War is a conflict that truly never was resolved. The country was split on the 38th parrell after the first world war. the norther part was communist while the souther part was very much capitalist. in 1950 Stalin approves of the invasion of south korea. It was a stalemate for three years. This is so important because the two are still divided and it proves that communism can be contained.

Suez Canal

Egypt had played the USA and the USSR by getting both to fund the Suez Canal. The canel was made to make shipping and sailing much more efficient, and it was completely man made. Multiple countrys like Isreal and Great Britan tried to invade Egypt but were condemmed by the USA. This canal is so important because it shortened the marine path from Europe to Asia.
