It is important to recognize warning signs. The nurse can recognize early signs by doing frequent patient assessments, continual monitoring, recognizing trending values, and understanding the patient's baseline. It is also important to know common signs and symptoms of conditions and applying critical thinking skills. Once a full assessment is complete, notify the physician using SBAR.

In order for a health care facility to attract and retain nurses, there are several changes that must be implemented. To minimize high turnover, nurse managers have tried to standardize nursing practice wherever possible. Hospitals must work towards incentives for long-term careers in hospital nursing. Staff development programs may aide in this goal, as well as a clinical promotion ladder for nurses. Evaluating this process is vital in order to see what strategies work best. Nursing education may aide in retaining nurses so they can become more specialized and become experts. Internships and nurse preceptors can also attract nurses because these programs can aide the nurse in adjusting to an unfamiliar environment.

The nurse-patient relationship is one that is unique and involves a lot of coaching and helping. Nurses are very sensitive to their patient’s recovery and are a pillar of support for them. This relationship requires a lot of commitment and involvement. This is all very important since nurses play a huge role in the success of a patient’s recovery. An example of a patient that is difficult to treat would be a patient with dementia. Dementia patients require a lot of patience since they have difficulty remembering you as the nurse every day. This can make it difficult to establish a therapeutic relationship with them.

To examine “care” , we cannot rely on purely quantitative, experimental measurements based on the natural science model. Nursing is a human science, conducted by self-interpreting subjects who are studying self-interpreting subjects who both may change as a result of an investigation. Caring cannot be controlled or coerced; it can only be understood and facilitated. Caring is embedded in cultural and personal meanings and commitments. Therefore, the strategies for studying it must take into account meanings and commitments.
