Suspect charged in deadly Bronx stabbing linked to apparent love triangle

Joseph Gomez(21yo) was arrested on 4th of July’s early morning for the murder of Luis Cartagena in Bronx.
Cartagena was with his girlfriend when Gomez appeared and started an argument, then it turned deadly when Gomez stabbed Cartagena in the torso and left the scene.
Police found Gomez and started the interrogation where they charged him of murder, manslaughter(involuntary homicide) assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
Cartagena was declared dead on the Jacobi Hospital.
Police said crime were down slightly(a little) in the last year in Bronx.

Transit detectives are looking for the suspects behind a vicious stabbing at the Union Square station early on Sunday morning.

The NYPD released video of one of the perpetrators involved in the heinous attack that occurred at about 1:45 a.m. on July 2 at the L train platform of the 14th

The worst thing about the migrant crisis, and the homelessness crisis that has existed long before that, is the lack of real direction in finding, and implementing, real solutions to these crises.
With homelessness on the rise in New York City during the time, the de Blasio Administration sought to house homeless New Yorkers wherever they could find shelter space - including underused hotels or renovated houses, often with little to no community input.
That only provoked the anger of the communities impacted, and the real outrage only grew with the addition of NIMBY-ists (Not In My Back Yard) who refused to bear the shelters in their neighborhoods.
Today, as New York City continues to grapple with the migrant crisis, communities are standing up against the formation of temporary shelters to house them. Queens residents spoke out against shelter sites at Aqueduct Racetrack and the former Creed-moor Psychiatric Center. While the Aqueduct site is now off the table, Creedmoor remains in play.
Monday night, south Queens residents and elected officials of every persuasion rallied against the now-tabled Aqueduct shelter site. During remarks given, they were adamant that this wasn't about NIMBY-ism, but rather the city itself continuing to bear the brunt of the migrant crisis with little help from the state or federal governments.
And on that we can agree. New York City is doing its best to house migrants expelled from Texas by a governor unwilling to care for them. But it's coming at great financial costs (billions of dollars, according to Mayor Eric Adams) and a crunch for available shelter space.
This is a national crisis that requires federal action to adequately resolve.
Neither Mayor Adams nor Governor Kathy Hochul can compel
Texas Governor Greg Abbott to do his damn job and show humanity to the migrants arriving in his state. They also cannot compel communities neighboring New York City to assist them with housing migrants and helping them settle in America.
But President Biden can.
With an executive order such as a disaster declaration, he can put an end to Abbott's inhumane ejection of migrants from Texas.
He can pour billions of dollars in aid into New York City's coffers to care for migrants.
He can utilize the infinite resources of the federal government to create new, appropriate housing, while also further controlling the flow of immigrants on the border.

The blaze started in a residential unit above the store and what caused the fire is unknown for now.

The fire caused massive smoke and water damage to inventory, furniture, and the building itself.

WOODSIDE, Queens (WABC) -- An off-duty police officer was shot in the leg in Queens on Wednesday afternoon in what is being investigated as a possible road rage incident.

The officer was shot at the intersection of Queens Boulevard and 70th Street just before 1 p.m.

Police say it all unfolded when the 26-year-old officer tried to bypass a white minivan blocking the Queens Boulevard service road.

He exchanged words with the minivan driver, Edwin Rivera, and was eventually able to get by. But the two vehicles met up again.

Police say that's when Edwin's brother, Sean Rivera, ran over and smashed the rear window of the off-duty officer's Kia Soul.

The off-duty officer drew his service weapon and called 911 as he held the two men at gunpoint next to his personal car. Officials say the officer identified himself as a cop and told the passenger he was under arrest, but the passenger resisted.

"He reholstered his weapon and was trying to control the subject with his hands," NYPD Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey said.

Authorities said a scuffle ensued and both brothers attempted to grab the off duty officer's service weapon as all three fell to the ground.

Police said the service weapon discharged twice.

Cell phone video obtained by Eyewitness News showed the moments when shots were fired.

Detectives are still trying to figure out who ended up gaining control of the weapon, but the cell phone video will be very helpful evidence.

The St. Albans landlord (David Daniel) who allegedly snapped and stabbed his live-in girlfriend and two tenants to death before turning himself in at the 113th Precinct was hauled before a judge on Wednesday, Nov. 15. The man was arraigned in Queens Criminal Court on a complaint charging him with three counts of murder and weapons charges and he is now facing.

Investigators believe the motivations for the murders stem from a rent dispute, purportedly leading Daniel to snap and kill his tenants before stabbing his girlfriend to death.

Daniel was peppered with questions from reporters and told them that he was under “a lot of pressure” before he was placed in a police vehicle for the trip to Queens Criminal Court in Kew Gardens.

Once in my first months in New York City, I lived in Prospect Park South and I wanted to visit my friend who lived in Crown Heights. To get there I had to take the Q train and make a transfer with the S in prospect park St. The transfer is on the same platform. I arrived and the S train was there, I got on and we had to wait a little before the trip started. I entered a subway car and it was totally empty. I felt excited in my innocence because it was the first time I was in a completely empty subway car.

Then a man saw me from another Subway car came directly to mine, sat in front of my seat and stared at me. I felt very uncomfortable and scared since the next station would be Botanic Garden and it takes a while for the train to get there. I didn't want to get stuck in the subway until the next station with a man who followed me every time I changed seats.

I decided to just get off and run to a subway car where there were more people. The man did not get on and I smile perversely from the platform.

Nothing bad happened to me but I think I was in real danger that day. When discussing it with my friend, she gave me some tips to avoid dangers as much as possible.

Teen in Manhattan killed two men while targeting cousin

Shooting Incident happened last June 16, 2024 around 11:43pm at West 207th St., and 10 Ave. at Inwood.

Based on the reivewed evidence the 16 year old boy wearing a ski mask and all black clothing attempted to fire another man who later identified his cousin. Two bystander have been died on the spot by stray bullets and one was brought to the hospital.

Rikers Island has seen one inmate death after death. The recent incident was the death of Chrizma Jones, 23 years of age, incarcerated on alleged second-degree assault charges, she died on July 14, 2024. The latter lawyer claim, Correction personnel repeteadly interfered with medical evalution efforts.

Under the law, Jones’ case is a felony punishable by between 5 to 10 years in prison upon conviction. Hence, she wound up woth the death penalty in a state where public executions are outlawed - her case never getting to trial, her guilt never proven.
