My life has been turned upside when marrying this man. Hi, my name is Grace. There is more to my life that meets the eye. From the outside it all seems perfect, don't you think? Having the perfect husband that will do anything for you. Or buying the perfect house that sits back in the forest? Well none of that matters, what matters is it is not what it seems. You see I have been taken captive soon after marriage.  I was afraid I was never going to get a man to love not only me, but my sister Millie. Millie is everything to me, she isn't like me, she has down syndrome. It is hard but sometimes I think what if she was normal? I have to catch myself as I have to accept who she is. The truth is she is my best friend and the most loving friend I know. When Jack came over to dance with Millie in the park, my heart melt and I instantly fell in love. The thing was it was never how it looked, we got married and the next thing I know is I was living a nightmare. No more doing things my way, in fact we were playing house. It sickened me as I showed my life to my friends, having what seemed like I had it all. Diane and Adam were close friends with Jack, along with Ester and Rufus. Of course they were Jack's friends that I had to play nice with. Ester got under my skin its like she knew but I couldn't let her get close to the truth. I wish my life was normal before love and before this nightmare that is now my life.

Jack Angel has made it to where his wife Grace Angel is powerless. His quest for power has left Grace with nothing; her might is being taken away by the day. It is another day that Grace faces locked away in her room. Millie on her mind is the only way she can look forward to. Millie is living at a special school for down syndrome she loves it there. Janice is her caretaker and has been since she came. Unfortunately Millie is almost eighteen, which she will soon be under Jack and Grace’s care. Jack bought a beautiful property where he is executing his plan. The plan is centered on Millie, his plan? To gain power over the weak to the point they cant fight back. Jack and Grace set up a plan to visit Millie on Sundays and then take Millie out for lunch. This time was different Millie knows something is wrong, she knows about Jack. The saddest part is nothing can be down and she is sworn to keep a secret. What lengths will Jack go to make people believe his perfect lie?

Jack Angel seems to replicate a round character. He follows the story lines of a prince, coming to save his soon to be bride. As a young boy he watched his father killed his mother, as she was powerless to fight back. Over the course of the book Jack develops his motives around his father. “the pain you feel is your only regret, I have barely begun”.

Jack and Grace go off on their honeymoon to Thailand, everything seemed to good to be true. Well not what you think, Grace was still a prisoner to her psycho husband. Jack warned her if she made a seen he would make sure Milly knows why they couldn't see her. It was helpless for Grace she was tired and she couldn't live this lie anything. This was sadly her new reality and it just never seemed to end. Grace while being locked in her room, well tricked thinking she couldn't get out. She knew she had to do something but it had to be perfect. Since Jack never let her carry anything in her purse, this was hard. Milly helped her in fact she faked needing sleeping pills so she could rescue her sister. Knowing this Grace had to think fast but throughly. Grace spent the next two weeks planning to kill her husband, but remember he was a big time lawyer for domestic women. Jack got an emergency that made him need to leave Thailand for once he left Grace my herself. After what seemed like forever she went back home to start her plan. Every night she made sure to make Jack drink with her after work. Gaining Jacks trust she continued and before long it was time. At this point it was time to go back to Thailand, this time Jack had to stay behind once again working on a big case. She put the sleeping pills in his normal drinking cup and it was time to wait. Jack was getting restless and ending up trying to put Grace in the basement. Rolls turned and Jack tumbled down the stairs. Grace went to Thailand and waited as her husband was soon joining her. Will she get away with it? We soon have our answer.

I find Ester an interesting character because she suspects something is wrong. Being a close friend to Jack, she keeps pestering about hanging out. She is very watchful and keeps letting Grace know that she always be there. I loved how from the beginning she never changed and continued to stay under Jacks radar.

"Things aren't always what they seem". Through the book it just repeats as we all go through things that are unseen. That is one thing I picked out.

Jack said goodbye to Grace as she heads to Thailand without him. This was the time to see the plan in action. As Grace is enjoying herself she cant help but wonder who jack sent to watch her. Days have gone by and no word from Jack she starts phoning him everyday to look as she was worried. By this time its been 3 days and she decides to call Adam. After Adam hasn't even heard from him worry filled her even more. Mr. Ho the manger of the hotel awaits her and upgrades their suite as Grace waits for her husband to arrive. Another couple days have gone and finally hears a knock at her room. At last she thought it was Jack but she was wrong. It was the police asking her to sit down. Grace couldnt believe it, she finally had a sigh of relief. By this the men had told her that her husband seemed to take his own life. Shocked filled Grace's face as she couldnt believe it. It was over and she had her life back.

Behind Closed Doors according to Fry Readability is at a about a college level. The themes and language are expressed through vivid actions. I am not surprised as content is not for everyone.

Paris is a wonderful writer as the attention to detail is so precise. This book is her first and you could not tell as her story flows and allows the reader to put themselves in the characters shoes. The book hooks you from the beginning and you keep reading for answers. At the end Grace gets her happy ending but it just ends. I want to see how she lived her life after the marriage. It is a very good read and it was easy to follow. I would fully recommend this book to anyone as it was referred to me.
