adab in seeking knowledge - adab towards teachers

to conclude, adab in seeking knowledge is a vital aspect of learning that ensures success and blessings. It begins with sincerity, where the intention behind seeking knowledge should be pure, aiming to please Allah and benefit others, rather than seeking fame or worldly recognition. Respect for teachers is also fundamental, as they serve as guides in the journey of learning and should be treated with humility, honor, and gratitude. A seeker of knowledge must possess humility and patience, recognizing their limitations, being open to correction, and persevering through challenges. Consistency and diligence are equally important, requiring regular study, review, and practical application of what is learned. True knowledge is reflected in actions, making it essential to implement what is gained in daily life. Additionally, knowledge should lead to humility and closeness to Allah, not arrogance or a sense of superiority. By observing these etiquettes, knowledge becomes a means of personal growth, spiritual elevation, and benefit to society.

to conclude, rukun iman refers to the six fundamental beliefs in Islam that every Muslim must uphold. These include belief in Allah, affirming His oneness, attributes, and sovereignty over all creation. It also encompasses belief in angels, who are created by Allah to carry out His divine commands. Muslims must also believe in holy books, the Quran, which serve as guidance for humanity. Another essential belief is in prophets, who were chosen by Allah to deliver His message, with Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) being the final messenger. Additionally, belief in the Day of Judgment is crucial, as it signifies resurrection, accountability, and the afterlife. Lastly, faith in Qada’ and Qadar reflects the understanding that everything happens according to Allah’s will and wisdom. These six pillars form the core foundation of a Muslim’s faith and guide their actions in life.

Ihsan and Judgment Day are closely linked because Ihsan means worshiping and living with the awareness that Allah is always watching.

Adab with parents, neighbors, and society is essential in Islam, as it reflects a person’s faith and moral character.

1 With parents, Islam emphasizes utmost respect, kindness, and obedience. The Qur’an commands: “And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination.” (Luqman 31:14). Speaking kindly, serving them with humility, and making du'a for them are key aspects of good adab. Even if parents are unjust, Islam instructs patience and gentle speech without disobedience to Allah.

2 With neighbors, Islam teaches respect, care, and good treatment. The Prophet ﷺ said, “Jibril kept advising me about the rights of neighbors until I thought he would make them heirs.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim). A Muslim should avoid harming their neighbors, offer help when needed, and maintain friendly relations, as good treatment of neighbors is a sign of strong faith.

3 With society, Islam promotes justice, honesty, and compassion. Muslims are encouraged to be trustworthy, fulfill promises, and avoid harming others. The Prophet ﷺ said, “The best among you are those who have the best manners and character.” (Sahih al-Bukhari). Helping the needy, speaking with kindness, and treating everyone fairly are key principles. A Muslim should contribute positively to society, uphold justice, and avoid spreading harm or corruption.

to conclude, Islam teaches that good adab with parents, neighbors, and society is not just a social duty but an act of worship that brings one closer to Allah.
