Hitler next turned his attention to the Sudetenland, a small area of Czechoslovakia that contained many people who spoke German as their first language. Hitler told the world that he wanted this region. In September 1938, Neville Chamberlain, the British Prime Minister, visited Hitler in Germany to discuss Hitler's demands. On September 30 the British and the French agreed to let Germany have the Sudetenland. Hitler said he was happy, and the world breathed a sigh of relief. In Britain, Chamberlain was a hero. He had even got Hitler to sign a piece of paper saying that he was satisfied with everything and didn't want anything else!
