As students being educated in a diverse, international institute located in one of the most sustainable city districts in the world, promoting Global Citizenship among the student body of Qatar Academy Msheireb (QAM) cannot be more important because it encompasses digital literacies, empathy with others, intercultural understanding and a belief that everyone can make a difference. In my role as Chairman of Board of Advisors for QAM, I will model global citizenship to help insure that the leadership of QAM has the resources to continue to have the conversations and connections that will help students and teachers collaborate on shared outcomes that develop the skills, habits, and attitudes that are global in concept, but able to be applied in practice. We want students who can understand world events, think deeply about their values, challenge ignorance and intolerance, and feel that they have the power to act and influence the world around them.

It is our responsibility, as board members, to develop the awareness of our youth towards the challenges faced by different parts of the world, and how these can impact their perception and knowledge of today’s interconnected world. It starts by empowering our kids to learn from the experiences of each other, understand their differences, and gain value out of that. I, personally, see volunteering in community work and encouraging cultural events is crucial to foster Global Citizenship Education.
