They are broken down to Greater Antilles and the Lesser Antilles surrounded by the Caribbean Sea.

The History of the Caribbean goes back even further, with each island having a unique history that would lead to present day or modern civilizations. Trinidad and Tobago have developed over the years and could be known as a paradise full of culture mixed races and the America of the Caribbean.

Tourism is where it is at in Trinidad and Tobago, fun sea and sand.

Trinbagonians' are also proud of our hospitality and the unique mixture of different cultures which have resulted from our animated history. After its discovery by Columbus in 1498, the islands were a sought after bone of contention between the colonial powers of Spain, France, Great Britain and the Netherlands. Columbus gave Trinidad its name, which means 'Trinity' in Spanish. In 1889, the islands of Trinidad and Tobago were consolidated under British control.

American Indian, African, East Indian, European, Middle Eastern and Chinese origin, Trinidad and Tobago’s rich heritage is reflected in our vibrant culture through our food, festivals, customs and general way of life.

To be quite honest I love history and everything about history mostly the slaves Trade and everything associated with it including the stories of persons who have been though it and survived and created history. This course was a bit challenging for me as the readings and the course work was difficult to grasps and the amount of information sometimes made it quite hard to understand. It however, open my eyes to things and information that I haven’t heard or read before, and that was quite interesting. I must say the Caribbean is a unique one and a place of different heritage yet one people with different cultures, race, opinions, and music that create such a unique and fabulous Caribbean.

Culture and the Caribbean is unique to each other’s country .Caribbean Culture is specific to the region and has its own way of bringing meaning and is often viewed as having an expression that cannot be copied by the world. Culture is always evolving. Calypso and soca in Trinidad and Tobago along with the steelpan is unique to them, and is viewed as being a pure cultural form. Carnival in Trinidad and Tobago is a typical example of how vibrant and festive the Caribbean could be. It brings persons and mixtures of different expressions reflecting African, European, Asian influences. Carnival is the biggest festival on island and the Caribbean as a whole. Indeed Caribbean Culture and Music have its own expressions and contribute to Caribbean civilization. As a student of caribbean civilsation , it is an interesting thing to see the changes of culture throughout the caribbean.
