Personal curiosities and goals around your exploration of technology integration

-A personal curiosity that I have when teaching with the integration of technology is how to make sure students are not getting distracted while using their devices/not using them for what they are supposed to be doing. I often worry that my students won't want to put them down, and when I will ask them to not use technology for something will they feel lost or discouraged.
-A goal of mine when integrating technology is to keep students from getting lazy. I often see students and myself relying on spellcheck and I want to make sure when teaching with technology to not allow them to use spell check when writing papers because I want to make sure my students are able to spell and be smart aside from technology.

Chapter 1:
-When using technology in the classroom it is important to adapt to current trends and encourage colleagues and parents to do so too. I really liked when teachers reached out to other teachers to share lesson ideas and share what technologies they find useful in their classrooms.

Chapter 2:
I also liked the idea of making a classroom twitter where you can follow educators you admire and then allow parents to follow you so you can show what you are doing in class!
Using the hashtags can show you the conversations that educators are having and show you useful tips to teaching your classroom i.e. #edchat.

Chapter 1:
-Figure 1.7 on page 14 shows what technology should and shouldn't be doing. This is a very useful chart because it shows that there needs to be a happy medium between technology and the teacher and that it is there as an aid but not as an alternative to teaching.

Chapter 2:
-Figure 2.1 on page 26 shows the screenshot of a teachers blog. This is a very useful tip because it allows teachers to share their work with other teachers and also chat about their lesson plans. Technology is a tricky thing to work with so having the conversations about what works and doesn't work is wonderful!

Major themes presented in each chapter (e.g. What can technology do? What can it not do? What mindset do teachers and students need to effectively adopt technology?

Chapter 1:

-Technology offers many useful things to our students that allows them to have stronger research, better resources, and wonderful work. By using technology they have access to everything right at their fingertips and it will help them dive in to all the things they can be learning about.
-The only thing technology cannot do is solve your problems as a teacher. "If only Max would read. If only Brandy would participate more. If only I could get Tine excited.." These are not issues with technology, but with the teacher and the classroom, but you can use technology to help students be creative and encourage them to work harder.
-When welcoming technology into the classroom some teachers may be hesitant but in order to effectively transition technology into the classroom teachers and students must have an open mindset where they are able to realize mistakes and what does and doesn't work. By having this mindset you can gradually transition technology into the classroom and you will be able to see the growth and success of yourself and your students.

Chapter 2:
-Technology can foster learning by doing and help students become part of their community. When using technology it is important to encourage play and to allow students time to explore. By allowing students to explore they can talk with their neighbors and share what they have learned, but also talk to you and teach you things you did not know before. These conversations that the students are having allows them to feel important and part of the community.
-Technology can't solve every issue by itself. When first using technology you may be very confused about how to use it and why it doesn't always go as planned but this is where conversations become very important. It is encourage to meet with teachers to discuss the variety of techniques they use and to determine what you like and don't like.
-When welcoming technology to the classroom. teachers need to have the mindset of wanting to learn. When learning about technology in the classroom, teachers need to conference together to figure out what they feel works best for their students and vice versa. By doing this they are having professional conversations that will improve their teaching and their classroom. The mindset go the students is very important too because they need to know that they are not using this technology to play games, but to learn and show them more ways to show their knowledge.

Interesting ideas that connect technology to student learning

Chapter 1:
-An interesting idea that connected technology to student learning was the idea of the recording booth. This idea of the recording booth allows teachers to see students thinking through video and be able to process their thinking later on. You can also use these recording booths to assess students learning by having them give a presentation and turn in their videos.

Chapter 2:
-An interesting idea that connected to technology and student learning in chapter 2 was when the teacher saw her student creating an app to show his learning. This student was shy when it came to his peers but once his peers saw him creating an app they became interested in his game and it was showing his learning through his game but also increased his social learning.
