Wilbur Wright was born at a farm somewhere near Millville, Indiana, on 4/16/1867. His brother Orville Wright was born in Dayton on 8/19/1871 in the house on 7 Hawthorn Street, which was where the family finally settled. They had two older brothers, Reuchilin and Lorin, and they also had a younger sister, Katharine.

I. 2. What events in their early life affected their accomplishments and place in history?

One day, their father came into the house with a gift hidden behind his back. Back then Orville was 7 and Wilbur was 11. Before they could figure it out, their father threw a toy helicopter made with bamboo, cork, and paper, and it was powered with a rubber band that was twisted. The (younger) Wright brothers called it “the Bat” and played with it until it had broken apart.

Their early life affected what they did as an adult because if they weren’t into building and making stuff like a true mechanic, then they might’ve never invented the airplane.

The airplane impacted a lot of other people because without the airplane, we would have to take ships, which take a few days to cross the ocean, when you could just fly on the airplane and cross the ocean in a few hours.

The Wright brothers, the people they hired to lift the plane and all, some people who were just passing by and the people who heard about it and belived it.

On December 17, 1903, the Wright brothers made four brief flights at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, in Dare County, with their first powered aircraft. The Wright brothers had invented the first successful airplane.

III. 1. Why does this person or event deserve to be honored? In other words, what innovation (invention) did this person or event make and what was the effect of the innovation on society?

The Wright brothers deserve to be honored because if it wasn't for the Wright brothers, the airplane might've never been invented in the first place. Well, maybe someone in our time or in the future might've invented an airplane somehow. The effect that the invention of the airplane had on society was that man could actually fly - and that was astonishing, because loads of people had tried experiments with gliders, and they haven't even come close!
