I chose it because I love nature, the outdoors, and especially love camping near a River. The sound is soothing to me, and there is a certain smell to a river bank that I just adore.
Sometimes, people are curious about River's name (which I don't mind), and ask things like: "What a cool name. How did you choose that?", or "River is an interesting name!".
Other times, people will joke and tease in a way I find disrespectful, saying things like: "Ha, ha, ha! What's your other kid's name, Lake?", "Sounds like a hippie name. Are you a hippie?"
I used to not reply to the "haters", but now I say something like, "We love his name. We didn't want to name him something just so strangers would approve. It was a personal decision."
