Currently, I am working as a cleaner at The Bromfords School Sixth Form and College, where I work 2 hours a day from 3:15 – 5:15, Monday to Friday. This has given me independent skills as I have to clean a department in the school on my own without the help of others. I am also trusted enough to work in an environment around children and staff where personal information is sometimes discussed around me.

I have completed 15 hours volunteering work at Wickford Library, helping out at the summer reading challenge, which involves communicating with both children and adults, so I have experience in communicating with various different ages of people. Doing the summer reading challenge has helped develop my problem solving skills, because quite often I talk to parents about questions that I am not normally asked about. It has also helped me to develop my communication skills with customers, and to be able to approach people in a friendly way. I have also completed two weeks work experience at Essex Shipping Services Limited in Brentwood, working in the office where I did general office duties including filing, logging ships and answering the phones as well as helping out with customer enquiries.

During my time at Sixth Form I have helped with a volunteering scheme where a year 7 student reads to me and I help that student with their reading skills. Although this hasn't benefited me skilfully, I have helped students with their own personal skills. I have also helped out at open evenings for the Business department I studied with, where I spoke to both parents and students, and answered any questions regarding the department. Additionally, I have attended an “Aspiration in Business conference” day at Anglia Ruskin University and this day included talks, activities and tips regarding body language, starting up your own business, motivational sessions, and an activity to create a service for schools about healthy eating and/or exercise.

In regards to my photography, I have voluntarily shot four+ concerts for the bands:

A New Beginning

Killing Jimmy

Cryptic Anger

Mary Do You Wonna

Outright Resistance

Vanity Draws Blood

Avenged The Heartache

I have shot in venues such as:

o2 Academy Islington, London

Camden Barfly, London

The Blackheart, London

Chinnerys, Southend

Asylum, Chelmsford

My work has been published on an online gig guide for one of the shows I shot at which is a personal achievement for me.

In all honesty, there isn't much volunteer related photography work out there for me currently that I would like to do (i've researched into this and there isn't anything available).

However, assuming the two options below are available (which they are not, I may add) I would try to volunteer for Rock Sound magazine and the Portrait place in basildon.

For Rock Sound, the cost for work experience/volunteer work would be a travel card to london and to use the tubes to get to the main magazine building - which will cost me £14.90 off peak and around £20 on peak. As Rock Sound is a magazine I will have to have people skills as well as the skills to be able to write articles. I will have to have the skills for photography (obvs) and I will need the skills to be able to work in a team.

For Portrait Place, it will cost me a bus ticket to get there which is roughly £4 for a return from where I live. The main skills for this will be to know how to set up a studio, how to use a studio, correctly and safely pack away as well as people skills, such as communicating with customers, talking on the phone. I will also need to know how to use software for booking, and I will need to know how to use the internet (especially email).
