What it looks like:

1. Child is easily distracted or bothered by sudden or loud noises.
2. Child does better in a quiet environment.
3. Child has difficulties having conversations and following them.
4. Child struggles more with verbal math problems than on paper.

Help in School:

1. Give students paper copies of directions or class schedule so they can fully see what the day or rubric for a project consists of on text.
2. Place students in the front of class so that they can hear what the teacher is saying or close to the P.A system to hear directions.
3. Provide students with FM (frequency-modulated) ( $100) transmission device that connects to a teachers microphone so students can clearly hear what the teacher is saying. This FM transmitter enables students with hearing impairments to listen to their teacher via a student receiver or hearing aid. FM transmission devices consist of two basic components, a wireless transmitter with a microphone and a receiver with a headset or earphone. (
4. Allow students to use computer assistive tools like closed captions or programs like (Click Here)

Help in Home:

5. Allow students to view the notes or what the teacher says in class online through shared documents like Google Docs.
6. Practice conversations with your child or routines.
7. Use simple sentences or directions when speaking to your child.
8. Have them repeat words you saying and have them make eye contact and watch your mouth.
9. Reduce them listening to music when doing things like homework or chores and reduce home noise.

Assessments and Activities:
1. Connect student with Speech Language Pathologist for an process evaluation. 
2. Give verbal questions to student to see if he/she auditory sense is enhancing. 
3. Have them talk in the mirror and exaggerate their facial expression and pronunciation of words and sentences. 
4. Play listening games like using a tape recorder to record the teacher telling a story and then the student has to recall the story and tell it back.

Things with this sensory issue should be used when students cannot see clearly enough or have difficulties telling the different between words, text, and letters.

Help in School:

1. Allow students to use text-to-speech applications on free websites like Natural Readers. (Click Here) This is a free application that allows documents and readings to be uploaded online and it will speak out loud for students with visual processing disorders to hear it. This tool can be downloaded on any application and can change speeds or tones of voices. It can be used in school or the home as well.
2. Magnification Aids (on many websites for free) This allows students to magnify text and photos in online sources for them to see bigger and more clearly.
3. Braille

Help in Home:

1. Help students study out loud by asking them to explain stories or terms.
2. Purchase audio books for child, read students stories.
3. Write chores in a different color, make chores in bold lettering.

Assessments and Activities:

1. Play card games like Blink or other board games. ($7)
2. Assess students on how well they can fit a puzzle together.
3. Accommodation tools and toys for visual processing disorder consists of; Sensory Tables ($40) so they can search in the sand or stones for certain items, iSpy Books ($10) to once again find items and challenge their visual abilities and, Bop It to intertwine both visual and auditory learning and reflexes.

2. Child is easily irritated by different types of fabrics.

Help in School

1. Allow child to run around gym as fast as they want to exert energy and find the stimulus they need.
2. Give children the opportunity to use a crash pad to enhance stimulus. ($40)
3. Have children go through the squeeze machine to give them the pressure and contact they need. ($549)
4. Have students jump on a trampoline to once again to enhance stimulus. ($30)

Help in Home:

1. Have parents use body soxs for children to give them the comfort and pressure they need. ($20)
2. Give children pea pods to sit in. ($30)
3. Children could use a weighted blanket at night to sleep with. ($30)
4. Give children a routine of buying them few outfits, keep their food the same and not touching. 

Assessments and Activities:

1. Toss children balls or have them tap certain buttons and switches at the correct answer on the wall.  ($5)
2. Have students write words in shaving cream, gel or play dough. ($10)
3. Student should create assignments with colored paints or use with beads. ($10)

2. Give student extra time and to have frequently breaks.
3. Have student listen to songs and lessons on video that involve action like "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes."

Help in Home

1. Play with children by going on a bike ride or jumping rope.
2. Encourage children to take walks and play on the monkey bars or climbing wall.
3. Have them hang off the couch while watching TV.

Assessments and Activities:

1. Take children outside to play on the jungle gym equipment and help them go across the grass on their knees or draw with chalk on the sidewalk.
2. Give them songs to dance to.
3. Give them balance games like walking across a pole or beam or curb.
4. Have them bounce on a medicine ball.  ($20)

I have been in a body sox and find it extremely comforting and a nice amount of pressure. I also have used wiggle chairs, trampolines, crash pads, and many other tools. All the items I have stated below are all items I know and trust will work and help students in my classroom that need sensory toys and accommodations. 

I find that there are alternatives to every product due to cost and grant money that is given. I also believe almost all of the items are moveable or that they are already at the school like the jungle gym. Many things can also be found at the dollar store for minimal cost.
