The Mahican tribe lived in and around the Husodn River. They called it "Mahicannituck". The map of the Hudson River shows where the entire tribe was from. It is a real geographical footprint to see where their history happened. It paints a really detailed picture in the reader's mind to help examine and visualize the story. It can connect the reader to the people of this culture.

I find the different ways that people live very interesting. Some people don't agree with the way normal society worked/works. They refuse to take part and the live on their own, on their own terms. The Mahicans lived in small villages, hunted, fished, and live near cornfields. They lived more simply. As an example, it is interesting to look at how many people travel today, compared to how some Aboriginal people still travel to this day.

There are many differences in spirituality between the Mahican people and people from others parts of the world. They obviously have some very strong beliefs and ways of doing things. I think that in order to understand what "torture ghosts of their enimies" really means, you would have to be directly exposed to the culture. There are great secrets in every culture, and the Mahicans clearly have their own in spiritual thoughts and ideas. I enjoy looking at art that is inspired by the Mohican tribe. It gives you a closer look at their atmosphere and the feel they had.

The Machian tribe have their own language, as many tribes do. Their language is distinct and has gestures. In videos I've seen, these languages are being passed on and kept alive. It seems it almost went extinct at certain points, but the traditions and communication live on to celebrate the life of these tribes. I've also noticed that things change. As much as this language is very old and strong, it can change too. I've seen throughout the videos I have watched, that the aspect of gestures has decreased in use. It seems like the language is evolving as the tribe lives on in different conditions.

This quote comes from a character in the story that is a friend of the Mohicans, but isn't a Mohican himself. It goes to show yout that Aboriginal people aren't opposed to involving themselves with white people, they just try to be careful. So far, all white people had done (as a race) was take over the land and have wars on it. But if people from tribes like the Mahicans can recognize someone (any ethnicity) that can appreciate and at least respect their culture, they are very open to sharing their ways and making peace. In a video I found, a man from the tribe performs some music in an Aboriginal style with Aboriginal instruments and Aboriginal decor, and the crowd is mostly white. They seem to respond very positively to the performance it seemed like the whole experience was very positive. Even though the Mahican tribe has a different way of doing things, I think it is very amazing that they are able to make peace and accept other types of people who's views they might share (and vice-versa). I also found some photos of Aboriginal/white friendships which I think is very inspiring.

It is well known that white people didn't treat the Aboriginal people right a lot of the time. It seems (based on this quote) that the Mohicans were also another tribe that was wronged and harassed. They had some hate towards white people, and still probably do. In small steps, white people are starting to realize the harm we have done to them. The government has apologized for aspects of what they have done, and I'm sure in time they will apologize for everything in the future.
