Each student will be e-mailed a 2-page worksheet titled, Ways to Categorize Expenses.

The first page of the worksheet will be the discussion portion of the lesson. It has the different types of expenses and their definition. I will have it on the smart board as well so we can discuss it together as a group. Students should already know how to open their e-mail and the worksheet. Paper copies for the worksheet are on the right corner of my desk should students have technical difficulties and are not able to log on or open their email.

After making sure all the students have the worksheet opened in front of them as well as myself, we will begin by going over the 4 types of expenses and their definitions together as a class. This should take 20 minutes. The 4 types of expenses, definition and an example of each are listed below:

Fixed expense- Expense that will be the same amount. Example: House payment

Variable expense- Expense that may increase or decrease. Example: Electric Bill

Planned expense- Expense that is expected. Example: Vacation

Unplanned expense- Expense that is not expected. Example: Vehicle repair

Next, students will complete the second page of their worksheet which has a total of 20 questions. Each question will give a random expense and the students must identify it as one of the 4 expenses that we discussed earlier in this lesson. We will do the first four together, then students will have 10 minutes to complete the remainder of the worksheet. They are to work on this independently without the use of the first page of the worksheet.

Students will have 10 minutes to complete the worksheet. We will go over the worksheet as a group after 10 minutes, or if students are done early. If students complete the worksheet early, they are to either read their library books or work on any unfinished assignments.

Students are to submit the completed worksheet to my email address. Students who had to complete a printed off worksheet are to turn it in to the Daily Work basket on the corner of my desk.

Next, students will play a game quiz of Kahoot for the remainder of class. This should take 5-7 minutes. They are familiar with this game and have played it before.

It is already opened on my laptop and ready to go. All you need to do is click on the start button. Students will answer questions on their laptops.

At the end of the game, students will see who is at the top of the leader board (they enjoy seeing how well they all did).

Students will dismiss themselves when the bell rings.
