They were warriors. From these provinces, the Aztecs collected tributes of money and goods. Aztecs also farmed their own food using chinampas, or floating gardens. The quetzal bird's feathers used for the work were very rare and had to be handled by practiced hands. This work was taken by explorers and brought to Spain.
