all of the mechanism we should now rite?- ummi

Anonymous 41m
yes that is what i want to ask, do we neet to memorize all the mechanism?-raqiqah

Noordini Mohamad Salleh 41m
the basic mech is more important

Noordini Mohamad Salleh 40m
have you seen the recorded powerpoint?

Anonymous 40m
So are the basic mech for alkane and propane? Must we remember for naptha, dr? -Jay

Anonymous 40m
so thats mean we have to know the raw material for each process or it will be given in the the exam? - shazwana

Anonymous 40m
Dania- yes

Anonymous 40m
we have seen the recorded-ummi

Anonymous 39m
During beta-scission of any compound, it will produce only alkene and radical? - syafiqa

Noordini Mohamad Salleh 39m
yes

Anonymous 39m
I've already watched it, Dr. -Shazwana

Anonymous 39m
dr, i want to ask why beta scission? -raqiqah

Anonymous 38m
Yes, I already watched it Dr. - syafiqa

Anonymous 38m
how do know if we use beta-scission or carbon-hydrogen scission for a mechanism? or is both aplicable for any mechanism? -sermaly

Noordini Mohamad Salleh 38m
ok, first, you must know which type of mechanism involve during the process

Anonymous 38m
yes watched it already dr-lidya

Noordini Mohamad Salleh 38m
2nd. which type of raw material used

Anonymous 37m
yes, i watched it already, dr - Ee Xin

Anonymous 37m
Watched - Suhada

Anonymous 37m
yes already watched-najwa

Anonymous 36m
I have watched it :) - Azsviny

Anonymous 36m
watched already,dr - wen li

Anonymous 36m
i have watched it also - Joash

Anonymous 35m
Dr do we have to memorize the naptha mech? - najwa

Anonymous 35m
so dr, we have to know the raw material by ourself la?- shazwana

Anonymous 35m
have watched it Dr.-purani

Anonymous 35m
what is the difference between beta-scission and carbon-hydrogen scission? - Ee Xin

Anonymous 35m
Watching it again just to catch up with everything that we discuss here - Hani

Anonymous 34m
Ahh i want to know the differences between it too - syafiqa

Anonymous 33m
yaa i wonder abt it too-ummi

Anonymous 32m
Dr, why must the feedstock mixed with steam before continue with the heating, cooling process? - Hani

Anonymous 32m
Yes. I need ti know that too _ Azsviny

Anonymous 31m
yup Dr i was about to ask that question too - Lidya

Anonymous 31m
Ah copycat betul hahahaha

Anonymous 31m
Dr, why must be the heating and cooling done within 1 sec, does the duration have any effect towards the reaction?-Purani

Anonymous 30m
excuse me name pls hahha - lidya

Anonymous 30m
yes. what is the difference between beta scission and carbon-hydrogen scission? -Joash

Anonymous 30m
Fine lidya fine :p

Anonymous 29m
"ethylene-producing beta-scissions are favoured over the termination processes" this is from the last slide of your lecture notes

Anonymous 29m
could you explain it?-shazwana

Anonymous 29m
i guesswe got to add steam to lower the pressure thus it matches the reaction conditions. it is a favourable effect on the position of equilibra & helps to prevent the decomposition of carbon in the furnace tubes. - Sermaly

Anonymous 29m
Because I notice that during beta scission and carbon hydrogen scission, both of them will produce alkene and radical, so i want to know the major differences between them :)

Noordini Mohamad Salleh 28m
beta scission occur upon splitting the c-c bond and free radicals are form

Anonymous 28m
I think C-H scission gives H radical and beta scission give alkyl radical. But I'm not sure too :/ - Jay

Noordini Mohamad Salleh 27m
c-H scission occur when splitting the C-H bond to produce alkene

Anonymous 27m
Owwwhhh= Azsviny

Anonymous 26m
owwwh. ok2 . thanks dr- joash

Anonymous 26m
So we can use either scission for any mechanism is it , dr? based on wht product we are expecting, i guess... - Sermaly

Anonymous 26m
ouhh i see-ummi

Anonymous 26m
Ohhh oraitt, thanks Dr. - Syafiqa

Anonymous 26m
noted Dr-Purani

Anonymous 25m
i see, thks dr - Ee Xin

Anonymous 25m
i see. noted. thanks dr - lidya

Anonymous 24m
Alright, thank you Dr. - Hani

Anonymous 24m
is it beta-scisson is a intramolecular interaction? -ummi

Anonymous 23m
i think it is an intamoleculra interaction -shazwana

Anonymous 22m
Dr, how do you know, when to use beta- scission and when to use C-H scission ? - Jayshree

Noordini Mohamad Salleh 22m
yes.it is intramolecular reaction

Anonymous 22m
by beta scission we only can produce ethylene or we also can get other alkene? -aishah

Noordini Mohamad Salleh 21m
beta scission will produce radicals

Anonymous 20m
only radicals? -lidya

Anonymous 20m
so does c-h scission -shazwana

Noordini Mohamad Salleh 20m
when the reaction involve radical, you can use scission

Noordini Mohamad Salleh 19m
C-H scission will produce H radical...

Noordini Mohamad Salleh 19m
beta scisson will produce alkyl radical

Anonymous 18m
does both scission produce radicals? or just beta scission produces radicals?- Joash

Anonymous 18m
Ouhhhhh i see, thank you Dr. :) - syafiqa

Anonymous 18m
how do know if we use beta-scission or carbon-hydrogen scission for a mechanism? or is both aplicable for any mechanism? -sermaly

Noordini Mohamad Salleh 18m
both will produce radical

Anonymous 18m
ohh now I understand -shazwana

Anonymous 17m
I think based on what product we want-ummi

Anonymous 17m
what type of raw material can cause the uses of whether beta scission or carbon hydrogen scission - dania

Anonymous 17m
So C-H scission produce H radical and beta scission produce alkyl radical. ? -Azsviny

Anonymous 16m
yes azsviny -shazwana

Anonymous 16m
is beta scission is more favourable than C-H scission ? coz termination is only show for beta scission

Anonymous 16m
yeap azsviny-raqiqah

Anonymous 16m
How ro know which scission is suitable to use? Based on products is it? - Azsviny

Anonymous 16m
So whether beta scission or carbon , we have decide looking at the product is it Dr? -Purani

Anonymous 16m
Why thernal cracking is used not catalytic cracking in the production of ethylene? - Farahah

Noordini Mohamad Salleh 14m
yes..depends on the product

Anonymous 14m
ooowwwwhhh- joash

Anonymous 14m
Ooooooo Azsviny

Anonymous 14m
oooh thanks dr. -kannan

Anonymous 13m
thank you dr- Joash

Anonymous 13m
okay Dr- Purani

Anonymous 13m
Ouh yes i see thanks dr-ummi

Anonymous 13m
Ooooo, thks dr - Ee Xin

Anonymous 12m
why branched alkanes yield lower ethylene than straight chain alkane? - najwa

Noordini Mohamad Salleh 12m
you can check the mechanism

Anonymous 11m
is it because of steric hindrance of branched alkane? -shazwana

Anonymous 11m
Najwa, because in staright chain alkane, every step produces ethylene, but not in branched alkanes - Jayshree

Anonymous 10m
okay noted jayshreev- raqiqah

Noordini Mohamad Salleh 9m
ok, catalytic cracking used to yield product with much less severe operating condition which breaks the feedstock into ligher products

Anonymous 9m
Thank you jay :) - Syafiqa

Anonymous 9m
noted, tq :) -najwa

Anonymous 9m
okie,dr - sermaly

Noordini Mohamad Salleh 8m
thermal cracking used high heat and pressure to break down the molecules..that is why it has been used to crack complex mixture of feedstock

Anonymous 8m
got it dr, thank you- deepa

Anonymous 7m
understood dr. thank you- joash

Anonymous 7m
Ohh ok thanks dr. - syafiqa

Anonymous 6m
I see. Thanks dr. - Hani

Anonymous 6m
yeayyy thank you dr - dania

Anonymous 5m
Oh understood Thank you Dr :)) -suhada

Anonymous 5m
got it,dr...thanks-wenli

Anonymous 5m
i see, dr, thks -Ee xin

Anonymous 5m
But dr, there's also slides on steam cracking(conditions) of naptha towards the end. So which one is preferred, thermal or steam cracking of feedstock ? - Jayshree

Anonymous 5m
Okay, now I knew why they used thermal cracking instead of catalytic cracking to produce ethylene. Thank you Dr.! :)

Noordini Mohamad Salleh 3m
steam cracking is part of thermal cracking process

Anonymous 2m
ok noted, thank you dr - Jay

Anonymous 1m
alright notted dr- joash

Anonymous 1m
Okay, thank you Dr. See you soon :). I prefer studying in class. - Azsviny

Anonymous 1m
Thank you so much Dr. - Kannan
