• develop their literacy skills
• expand their vocabulary and strategies for using context clues to aid in comprehension
• expand their cultural literacy
• provide a basis for analyzing cultural product, practices and perspectives
• provide a basis for small group discussion and the cultural information for cultural comparisons between the Spanish-speaking culture and their own.
