I read the book Chasing My Cure by David Fajgenbaum. This story is focused on David. David is a medical student who works very hard at his job. He gets diagnosed with a very rare disease called Castleman's disease and his goal through the book is to try and find a cure to the disease.

Main Events

David gets diagnosed with Castelmans disease. This impacts his life because he has to make many changes in his life like moving into a hospital room.
David goes into remission but relapses after only a couple weeks out of the hospital. This impacts him because he thinks his life is starting to look up but suddenly he is back in the hospital again with no one knowing what to do.
David works hard to find a cure to castleman's disease and eventually is able to find a medicine that works to fight the disease.

Setting

This story takes place in a couple different places. The first place is at David’s house in Raleigh, North Carolina. He also works at the local hospital in Raleigh and eventually gets admitted to this hospital. The second place this story takes place in is the Little Rock, Arkansas Hospital were David goes to get treatment for cattleman's disease.

Authors Purpose

I think the author's message is to never stop fighting and to keep showing up for yourself. I know this because throughout the book the main character, David, goes through some really challenging situations but he refuses to give up and keeps fighting to find a cure and return back to his normal life. I think that since David was a medical school student it impacted him into wanting to find a cure to the disease and eventually write a book about his findings.

This book uses Ethos through his credibility as a medical professional and researcher. He shares his personal journey with castlemans disease, which not only gives him authority on the subject but also builds trust with the audience. Pathos is used as he shares his emotional struggles and near death experience. His storytelling evokes empathy and compassion which allows readers to connect with him more.

Logos is present in the way he explains the scientific research and medical process involved in his treatments. He provides logical arguments and data to support his findings.

One song that I think relates to my book is the song Survivor. I chose this song because it talks about not giving and being a survivor. I think that David is a survivor because he was on his Death bed multiple times through the book but he continued to fight.
