         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Main Idea of the American Dream is that no matter who you are to this world, everyone should have equal opportunity to make something of themselves, and have the opportunity for their voices to be heard. The man who coined the idea of the American Dream was James Truslow Adams. He explains, "<strong> </strong>but a dream of social order in which each man and each woman shall be able to attain to the fullest stature of which they are innately capable, and be recognized by others for what they are, regardless of the fortuitous circumstances of birth or position" ( Truslow). In simple terms he's saying everyone should be able to achieve wealth regardless of any factor. There should not be any disadvantages for anyone regardless of what your skin color is, what your gender is, or what physical/mental disabilities you may have.&nbsp;The Overall concept of the American Dream is simple but everyone has their own definition of what the American Dream is.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The book I chose to support my thesis is The Distance Between Us By Reyna Grande. The book is about a family who want to cross the border to go to Los Angeles to try and live the American Dream. A lot of her family don't achieve the American Dream, due to them letting things get to them. But people like Reyna were able to make something out of herself and achieve her goals. She is in support of the American Dream and she has stated that she is living it. To make her American Dream a reality though was not easy. She had to face many challenges like coming from Mexico, and only speaking Spanish for a while, and also living with not a lot of money, and basically having to build up from nothing. Through that she still knew achieving her goals was still very possible, she just needed to push through no matter what and work very hard.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The person who I interviewed was my older brother who is 25. My interviewee's response to the question what does the American Dream mean to you was, The ability to pursue what you desire within the United States of America. My interviewee is a history major and is working to get a job in the history field. He is getting very close to achieving the goal and is only a month away from getting a PHD. He states," Yes My American Dream is coming true as I am on track to earring my PHD within History, and have even took internships within museums and local government branches".&nbsp; He believes the American Dream is very realistic to achieve, it just requires a specific mindset to achieving your goals. Regardless of Hard obstacles that he faced he is well along his way to achieving his dream.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Article that I used is from the New York Times. The date that this was published was Feb. 9, 2019 and the article is by Samuel J. Abrams. The article is in support of the American Dream and they state it is well and alive. There are also interview results about the American Dream.&nbsp; When interviewers asked Americans about what makes the American Dreams a reality, the interviewers were shocked, the article states, " When Americans were asked what makes the American dream a reality, they did not select as essential factors becoming wealthy, owning a home or having a successful career. Instead, 85 percent indicated that “to have freedom of choice in how to live” was essential to achieving the American dream.&nbsp; In addition, 83 percent indicated that “a good family life” was essential." (Abrams). This shows that it's not just about materialistic things and money, but people being able to make something out of themselves, and for freedom for themselves and their families. The article also states that race isn't playing a factor on what people believe they can achieve, the text states, " Eighty-one percent of non‐Hispanic whites; 80 percent of blacks, Hispanics and those of mixed race; and 85 percent of those with Asian heritage said that they had achieved or were on their way to achieving the American dream." (Abrams). This shows that most Americans of color are confident in their ability to make it to their goals, and that the way they look are not getting in the way. Overall regardless of some difficulties that may occur when trying to achieve your American dream,it is certainly possible to make it a reality.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The song I chose was American Dream by Don Mclean. This song talks a little bit about the American Dream and how he wants is back. While the song does imply that the American Dream seems to become more dream than reality, through metaphors and analogy, he makes it apparent that he wants it back, for people to look back at it as it once was very glorious which I would say supports my thesis. This can be interpreted as someone who did not get his American Dream but knows its out their.&nbsp; In lyrics like, " He was singin', bye-bye, Miss American Pie, Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry, Them good ol' boys were drinking' whiskey and rye" (Mclean "American Pie). This talks about the lost of hope within the American Dream and how it seems to be fading but many still try to hold on to what was very prominent and strong within America and the dream associated with it. He knows the American Dream is Alive and many people are going for it. Also in lyrics like, "A long, long time ago, I can still remember how that music Used to make me smile" (Mclean "American Pie). As this refers to Bob Dylan, it also talks about the American dream and how it is strong and prominent.</div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The movie clip is from the Movie The Pursuit of Happyness directed by Gabriele Muccino. The Movie stars Will Smith who plays a father Chirs Gardner who takes care of his son, and Chris need to get a job that pays well. This movie touches a lot on the themes of the American Dream. Chris had to overcome many obstacles to achieve his happiness but he was able to get there. Throughout the movie he was trying to get a good job because he knew he was very intelligent and though it was not easy he was able to get hired as shown in the clip. The clip proves my thesis statement because&nbsp;through many hardships he was able to achieve his goals.</div>]]></description>
