Many if not all of the courses I have taken here through APU have put a great emphasis on doing our part by being inviting to the parents in any way or form that we can. Many of the classes have encouraged setting up home meetings to get to know the students home life and get a better understanding towards teaching the students. On one part we want to give our children as much as we can but we are very limited due to funding issues. We can first start off by asking parents/guardians of our children if they are willing to buy any material for the students or donate anything. There is also amazon wishlist or other websites where teachers can list things they need and random donors buy it for them. However, there is additional funding for targeted students such as English Learners, low-income, foster, and homeless students. Change takes time to happen, which is why we may see the situation not improving. There is a lot that is impacted in a title 1 school. That usually means that the students are not only from low SES but also are behind in meeting the content standards for the school year grade level they are in. A great principal will get resources to support the title 1 school however, it will always take time and money to each year to see the specific needs and then purchase what needs to be purchased. Digital applications, technology such as smart boards, etc, cost a a lot of money.
