Eversince the duckling birth he was discriminated and ostracized for his appearence with most of all being recognized differently from his sibling.

The duckling hatches and is immediately rejected by his siblings and other animals for looking different.
Unable to bear the abuse, he flees from the farm and sets out into the world alone. He faces harsh weather, hunger, and danger — almost freezing in a cold
Along the way, he meets other animals, like wild ducks and geese, but they too either ignore or reject him.

He catches a glimpse of a group of beautiful swans flying overhead and is filled with admiration and longing — but assumes he could never be like them

There was a swan egg which fell into a duck nest accidentally. When the eggs hatched and the swan was completely different to those around it, it had to endure the bully and insults from the other ducklings, being called "the ugly one", setting up the emotional struggle he will face throughout the story.
