         <title>

Martin Luther was one of the most famous
theologians in all Christian history. He was from Germany and was apart of the
1600s Christian movement. He was the son of Hans Luder and his wife Margarethe,
born in 1483 November 10. Him and his family moved from Eislebel, Saxony to
Mansfield He was a catholic monk and priest who was well educated. He was well
educated, attending the University of Frankfurt where he received his master’s
degree in 1505. He later went into law school upon his fathers wishes and was
deeply influenced by two tutors von Usingen and Trutfetter although he would
later drop out of law school. They taught him to be suspicious of even the
greatest thinkers and leaders. He found his studies to be unfulfilling and was
more interested in religion then reason as he fought that reason did not lead
men to god.&amp;nbsp;</title>

He decided to abandon his education when one night he was
riding home and was almost struck by lightning. He thought this was a message
from god that he was neglecting religion. When he finally arrived back home he
told his family about his near death experience and how he prayed to be a monk.
Luther then dedicated his life to the church. His life became very monastic, it
consisted of long hours of prayers and confessions, and he went on many
pilgrimages. He found himself in spiritual despair as he felt he had lost touch
with religion and Christ. During this time he believed that repentance does not
come from self inflicted harm or punishment but was about the changing of ones
heart.

         <title>

Martin Luther differed from most Catholic Priests of his
time because of the way he view repentance and bribery. The church of his time
claimed that a person could be absolved of all his crimes if they where to give
a large charitable donation to the church. Although it is now seen as bribery
it was not in Luther’s mind, the correct way for someone to receive redemption.
He believed that if some was to seek redemption from the church they should not
have to pay them for it. Not only did he believe that this was morally wrong
and extortion of the people, he also believed that this was against gods will
to accept bribes in return for salvation. He said that, &quot;Forgiveness is god’s
alone to grant, those who claimed that indulgences absolved buyers from all
punishments and granted them salvation were in error.&quot;&amp;nbsp;

         <title>

Martin Luther promoted new ideas within religion as well as
creating a whole new one. The church had previously been very close minded
about handling repentance only accepting cash donation as the only way to rid
oneself. This was thought as absolute and there would be no way around this.
Luther made great pushes to rid churches and religions of this corruption. As
he made an open push to rid these churches of bribery he was excommunicated the
priests of these churches claimed that he was angering god with his blasphemy. He
worked for change after being excommunicated by organising a new church. Luther
wanted a church based on personal faith and experience, but to avoid angering
the masses he choose not to incorporate any radical changes in the church.
Throughout his career as a priest he consistently angered many churches with
his radical new beliefs. Most notably the Catholic Church as he had once
belonged to it and was excommunicated because of his actions.

         <title>

I found Martin Luther’s story to be very inspiring. His
opposition of the corrupt churches of his time is an admirable desire. It
showed how much he supported his own faith and that of Jesus Christ that he
would go against the church. Being branded a heretic and blasphemous, he still
continued to have faith in religion. The main thing taken away from the life
and story of Martin Luther is that you should never accept injustice around
you. Even one man can make a huge change to the way a system is run.
