From the time of the early American settlers to now, a lot about the U.S. road systems has changed. Dwight Eisenhower  put in a lot towards the highway systems we have today. He had an experience with dangerous dirt roads in the past and decided to make a change, so he supported this cause and in 1954 the Federal-Aid act was passed with $175 million for construction of highways. Thanks to this the U.S. now has more than 46,000 miles of road.
