This is where students have the opportunity to share what's going on in their lives, (good or bad), to talk about their families, what they're excited about, etc. Ii sometimes pose a question such as, "What is your worst habit and why?" "What steps could you get to break that habit?" or "What is the best thing about having peers at school?" That way, if students don't have something to share, they have a question to answer.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I brought in a loaf of bread and PB &amp; J.  I had students tell me the steps of making a PB&amp;J sandwich.  I modeled what they were saying. For instance, they may say "put the Peanut butter on the bread",  I would put the jar of PB on top of the loaf of bread.  They of course realize they need to be specific in their instructions.  I then had them think about/talk about how to solve math problems.  Learning to give specific instructions when they peer tutor. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Each morning my kids are given the opportunity to pair up with another student for a 2 minute talk break. They're allowed to talk about anything they want to, but a question of the day prompt is provided for any friends struggling to find a topic to discuss. I encourage them to branch out to everyone (not just their BFF), but I don't pick their partners for them so they have a choice and an opportunity for anxiety to arise is removed (hopefully). </div>]]></description>

         <title>We have used a game called Socratic Smackdown (similar to fishbowls) where students on the inside circle are give a controversial topic and they must take turns effectively communicating their opinion using a formula IRAC (issue, rule, application of facts, conclusion). The students on the outside of the circle monitor students responses and provide feedback.</title>

For Humpty Dumpty, the students worked in groups to create an "egg shelter" that would help Humpty survive a fall from a cherry picker that the electric company graciously brought to help us out. </div>]]></description>
