In his example using Mariah Careys vision of love, he explains that this track is her trying to recreate her image as an artist instead of her just going into the studio and doing what several producers have already layed out for her. This idea that music has become something disposable might have held its ground when the book was first published, but since then I believe that musicians have started to step forward and begin to make themselves more then a shoe in for other people to make money of the the business and have returned it to an art form.
